Here is my interview with British singer/songwriter/comedian ALAN WILLIAMS.  This interview was done January 17, 2007.

Alan Williams

Alan Williams: Have you ever been to my website? www.alanwilliamsmusic.com
Also, have you checked out my page on "Livevideo.com"(an online website) with my music videos?
AW: Also, episode 7 of "Mrs. Ellis" (Alan's BRILLIANT online comedy series) is on "Livevideo.com"
Shirley: Oh YES! I've checked out BOTH... DAMN you are TALENTED! You need to have your OWN TV show!
AW: lol
Shirley: I MEAN it!
AW: (smiles broadly)
Shirley: So, what was the first instrument you learned to play, and how old were you?
AW: I was about 6 years old, and it was a keyboard. An instrument that I still play to this day, as well as guitar.
Shirley: Most fans know of the tremendous influence that Jim Diamond had on you. Were there any other artists that played
a key role in developing your interest in music as a PERFORMER?
AW: A few...John Lennon is one. I am lucky to have people actually regard my writing style similar to Lennon's. Elvis of course is another.
Shirley: Are there any members of your family who are also musically talented or have a leaning toward music?
AW: My older brother, who is no longer with us, was a singer also. He also plays a key role, and is one of my inspirations in music.
Shirley: You are now becoming a HOT new artist here in America. What would you most like to be known for: your songwriting,
your singing or perhaps even as a TELEVISION star(since you are also a VERY talented comedian)?
AW: Oh, music will ALWAYS be my main occupation, as far as I am concerned. I cannot choose between singing and writing to be
honest though... because I can't and never will have one without the other. I don't like recording cover songs unless there is a good reason.
BUT if I had to choose... then it would be singing.
Shirley: At this point in your career how much of the year is spent "on the road" performing? And how much of that is spent HERE
in the US and how much OVERSEAS? Also, do you have a preference?
AW: For the past year, I have been concentrating more on the recording and writing aspect of my career, and also promotion.
Most of my time is spent here in the US. Which at the moment, I do prefer.
Shirley: You are currently based in GEORGIA, but if the opportunity arose, would you consider RELOCATING, either to pursue
new career opportunities or to obtain new music experiences?
AW: Oh, I would relocate, most definitely. Wherever my career takes me. Without a doubt.
Shirley: So, I gotta tell you (if you don't ALREADY know) that you are HOT! Are you prepared to have the ladies MOBBING YOU
at your shows, maybe give you the "Tom Jones" treatment(throwing undies onstage)?
AW: Thanks for the compliment!! haha... Umm... well yeah I guess it will happen, as it does to most artists, but at the end of the day,
it will be known that I will always return home to my wife anyway so... yeah. lol
Shirley: Ahh! One of the qualities of your writing that I find the most appealing is the highly PERSONAL element. Many of your songs
seem based on ACTUAL events and people in your life. Is this a CONSCIOUS choice on your part or does it just seem to happen naturally?
AW: Quite a few of my songs are based on life events that have occurred during my life. But quite a lot of my songs do actually just
happen by accident, and seem to withold a message that seems to connect with people.
Shirley: At this time in your career, are there any particular artists with whom you'd take SPECIAL pleasure either recording with OR
performing onstage with?
AW: Well, that is and always has been an easy question to answer. Jim Diamond. He is also someone I am friends with, I have never
actually suggested a duo or a performance on stage together, but if he suggested it, I would certainly take him up on it!
Shirley: An EXCELLENT idea, which I would LOVE to see happen!
AW: Same here!
Shirley: At this time, are there any particular musical styles or genres that you are just starting to explore?
AW: Not really. But, I am not bracketed into one style. I will play with any style apart from hip hop and rap, lol! I have pretty much
explored ALL styles.
Shirley: ADMIRABLE indeed! And something I for one DON'T note many CURRENT new artists doing! GOOD for you!
AW: Thank you.
Shirley: Ten years from now, where would you like to see yourself career-wise?
AW: Still doing the same as I am now. Enjoying my work, but to a WIDER audience.
Shirley: YES! I VERY MUCH wish for you a WIDER audience! I think you truly are that "breath of fresh air" that currently seems
to be HARD to find in many of the current performers!
AW: Thank you very much! It is definitely hard to find music nowadays that is easy to listen to. In the MAIN charts anyway.
Shirley: You admirably DON'T seem to fit into that now STALE formula I've been seeing TOO MUCH lately in what gets played on
music video programs! AGAIN, my congratulations!
AW: Thanks. I try to keep my music videos traditional to the older style.
Shirley: Can you see yourself choosing to REMAIN on an Indie label (such as New Zealand artist TIM FINN has done) or is moving
to a MAJOR label something you are planning in the near future?
AW: If I am offered a major deal, I would probably accept, depending on the contract. I have been conned and lost a major amount
of money before... so I will be CAREFUL from now on.
Shirley: Are there any PARTICULAR major labels that if/when they come courting you that you'd find especially tempting?
AW: Sony would be my first choice I think... either them or A&M (Jim Diamond's old label). They seem to be the major ones that
have artists who perform and record my kind of style.
Shirley: As your star rises higher and the MAJOR performing venues open their doors to you, are there any in particular that you are
looking forward to experiencing, and if so WHY?
AW: I'm not a picky person really, so anywhere that will have me really.
Shirley: Here's one I bet you DON'T get asked often: as more and more venues become available to you and more DEMAND for
touring dates from your fans sets you on the road more often, do you see yourself spending MOST of the year touring (as stars
such as Loretta Lynn and George Thoroughgood have done) or do you see yourself primarily as a STUDIO artist (like Peter Gabriel)?
AW: I LOVE performing AND recording. So pretty much, either one is fine with me. (I know, I'm too easy [lol])
Shirley: lol! Now your fans are well aware of your official website, as well as your regular appearance and feature on "Live Video" and
"YouTube" but are there any NEW online venues your fans should know about?
AW: I am no longer on YouTube because of differences with certain people. But I am on myspace.com (www.myspace.com/alanwilliams1)
which features my newest song 'This Heart' !
Shirley: WOW! Now that IS news!
AW: Thanks! Ok, so anymore questions?
Shirley: Yes, when are you coming to California?
AW: Not at this time, but I WOULD like to in the near future.
Shirley: Alan, thanks for taking time from your VERY busy schedule to chat with us this morning!
We'll be sure to be looking for MORE new music/comedy videos on "Livevideo.com" AND your official website!
AW: Thanks Shirley!
